December 2, 2010
I am proud to announce that Stitch Media’s Redress Remix won “Best in Canadian Culture Interactive” at the 2010 Canadian New Media Awards. Presented by nextMEDIA, the CNMA’s honor the best of the best in Canadian digital media.
The awards ceremony came after a busy two days at NextMEDIA where Evan received second place for his Moderation Town Digital Hot List Pitch and moderated the panel “Harnessing the Value of Video and Content on New Platforms”.
We were delighted to have had Redress Remix director Lesley Loksi Chan join Evan and Victoria on stage as they accepted the award. The CNMA’s Twitter twist required us to pre-write a 140 character acceptance speech which Evan recited: “We wish 2 dedicate this award to all those who worked for redress & continue the struggle against discrimination. History can be innovative!” Of course the success of Redress Remix would not be possible without all of our supporters and team members – so to them I’d like to not only offer a big ‘Congratulations’ but also a sincere thank you for all their hard work. In perhaps the most validating moment of the night, I met two of the judges in our category who offered us sincere congratulations on creating a project that not only moved them, but delivered an important message as well.
Needless to say, it was an exciting night and I spent a good portion of the evening with my phone in hand, tweeting (for three different accounts) my heart out! All that finger typing was certainly indicative that the last ever CNMA’s were total success! Next year the CNMA’s will be re-branded to “The Digi Awards” which will continue to celebrate the best in Canadian digital media. I look forward to 2011 and all the great, innovative productions that are sure to come.
